The book offers a powerful response to the issue of compensation for women who were unlawfully sterilized in the past. It presents the authentic stories of fourteen Romani women who decided to fight for justice—some achieving recognition, while others still waiting for it.
The stories were recorded and retold with empathy by Romani writers of various generations who are members of the Paramisara Romani literary club. Together, they address the painful topic of coerced sterilizations between the 1970s-1990s and highlight their profound and long-lasting impacts on the lives of these women and their families.
The book is not only a testimony to injustice, but also to courage, perseverance and the quest for justice. At the same time, it encourages listening, understanding and reflection on recent history that should not be forgotten.
